14 Apr National Transgender HIV Testing Day Lunch & Tour at The DOCK!

In honor of National Transgender HIV Testing Day on Monday, April 18th, Get Tested Coachella Valley is inviting members of the transgender community to join us for lunch and a tour of Desert AIDS Project’s new sexual health clinic, The DOCK.

What is National Transgender HIV Testing Day?

National Transgender HIV Testing Day is a day established by the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health to recognize the importance of routine HIV testing, status awareness, and to increase the focus on HIV prevention and treatment efforts among transgender people.  This initiative encourages community-based organizations (CBOs), health jurisdictions, and HIV prevention programs to participate by hosting local transgender HIV testing community events (HIV testing, visibility campaign, community forums), and/or develop transgender- specific HIV testing campaign materials and resources.

The Impact of HIV Among Transgender Women

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, transgender women are one of the most highly-impacted groups in the HIV epidemic to date, yet they are disproportionately under-researched and underserved by current treatment efforts. Transgender women have 49 times higher odds of HIV infection compared to other groups, a disparity that exists across race, culture, and socioeconomic boundaries.

HIV Education and Testing at The DOCK

Get Tested Coachella Valley is proud to partner with the Transgender Community Coalition and The Lunch Ladies to provide HIV education and free and confidential HIV testing to the transgender community.
